Time is sold in 250 ms blocks of $0.00025. A call without a line pays one block and runs at most 250 ms. Buy time and open a line for longer work: it burns only while a call runs.

A failed call without a line is not charged. On a line, a failed call burns the time it ran. What you deposit and do not spend comes back on refund; the refund quote shows any gas charge before you sign.
